Amazon.fr and French EPR: the message you received, and what it asks

Updated 17 October 2026 · by Bachir Djebaili, founder of REP·Pro

Direct answer: In Seller Central’s section titled “Account Health › EPR compliance” (as read on 12 October 2026), Amazon asks sellers shipping to France for four details: the country, whether the company is the producer, the French unique identifier per category (UIN, format FRxxxxxx_xx) and, for companies established outside France, the representative. This page sorts Amazon’s messages by situation: one page per message, saying what it means and what to enter. It is you who determine which categories your products fall under.

About a representative established in France

Under French law, a producer with no establishment in France appoints a representative established in France (article L. 541-10-9-1). The same article says the obligation is deemed satisfied where a marketplace established in France sees to those obligations itself, for the products concerned, for the sales made through it, with written confirmation. It is you who determine whether that applies to you; this page does not say that a seller is exempt, nor that it is not.

FAQ

Does an Amazon message mean I must register?

The message is Amazon’s screening; the French rule comes from the French texts, not from the marketplace. Which schemes your products fall under, and whether your company is the producer, is a determination you make from the texts; this site explains the screen and the rule, it does not decide your case.

Can one number fill every line?

No. Each French scheme has its own registration and its own identifier; each line expects the number of its scheme.

What is the representative line?

Since 10 July 2026 a producer established outside France may appoint, by written mandate, a representative established in France (article L. 541-10-9-1 of the Code de l’environnement); the representative registers in the producer’s name and obtains the identifiers. That is the service of UIN France.
